In 2004, Windstar turbine inventor Bob Thomas and the Wind Harvest Company received a patent for placing vertical axis turbines close together which generate more energy than turbines placed further a part.  The vortices of the adjacent turbines interact with each other to provide enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.
