Wind Harvester Avoids Impacts from Tariffs
With the Trump administration threatening to impose tariffs on US companies outsourcing manufacturing to other countries, many in the wind energy industry have been worried about potential effects on turbine production. However, expert analysis has predicted minimal impact on US wind farms and the US wind sector.
US projects using Wind Harvesters need not worry, as Wind Harvest’s unique steel and aluminum design reduces the need for overseas manufacturing, curtailing the effect of tariffs on a developers’ bottom line. All the steel components of the Wind Harvester can be produced in the US, and 25% tariffs on the aluminum blades (imported from Germany) will increase the total cost of a turbine by only 0.5%.
For projects abroad, cost increases due to tariffs can similarly be mitigated. Kevin Wolf, CEO of Wind Harvest, explains why Wind Harvesters can be produced without incurring tariffs in most industrialized countries. “Almost 100% of Wind Harvester components can be made in the US, the EU, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and many other industrialized countries. Even Barbados can make 50% of the components on the island. Local production avoids the problem of tariffs.”
The affordability and practicality of manufacturing Wind Harvesters supports Wind Harvest’s mission to revolutionize efficiency in sustainable energy production. Even in a changing global manufacturing landscape, Wind Harvesters’ design makes them well-suited to affordably harness turbulent wind around the world.
