New Patented “Hinge” Solves Long Standing Challenge for VAWTs
In March of 2024, the US Patent and Trade Office officially granted Wind Harvest’s patent (#11927174) for the “Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) Blade-Arm Connection Member”.
There are six other patents in the pipeline that we expect to follow soon. All of these innovations came from our world-class engineering team’s design for the Wind Harvester™ 4.0. A big shout out to the patents’ inventors – David John Malcolm, Olamide Ajala-Inyang, Jeffrey Willis, Antonio Ojeda Monge and Alin Ionut Munteanu.
The “connection member” in question is a hinge, critical to the endurance of industrial-scale VAWTs. These turbines will experience 10-20 million revolutions annually under turbulent “mid-level” wind conditions. On a very windy day, Wind Harvesters can undergo over 70,000 rotations in 24 hours.
Twice per revolution, the arm-blade connection experiences a complex interplay of subtle yet powerful pushing and pulling forces. The incredibly tough pin in the hinge at this critical juncture ensures the enormous forces are absorbed with exceptional durability.
These patents are a breakthrough that we expect others entering the field will need in order for their own VAWTs to work well in turbulent wind. With six other patents pending and at least three more on the horizon, we are confident that our intellectual property will be licensed by future VAWT manufacturers worldwide. Our growing portfolio of intellectual property promises to be quite an asset to the Company and our growing number of shareholders.
